Bankruptcy Filed For The Crystal Cathedral Ministry

10/26/2010

The Crystal Cathedral, led by Minister Robert H. Schuller, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week. The 84-year old minister asked for help from the Crystal Cathedral congregation this Satuarday. He asked for the members of his congregation and those who watch the Hour of Power broadcast on television to become a tither if they are not already or become a double tither if they have not already.

Schuller and his son repeated the message that the ministry they have founded has earned both people’s help and their trust. He and his son expounded on the theme that strong people can make it through tough times, a theme first expounded upon in the minister’s book Tough Times Don’t Last, Tough People Do.

How Much the Crystal Cathedral Owes

The Hour of Power ministries blog said the organization owed $36 million dollars on its mortgage, $7 million dollars to debtors, and $7 million more in other debts. 50 million dollars in debt prompted the ministry. Sheilla Schuller Coleman, his daughter, stated that although the church has more money coming in than it has in the past, the organization could not find ways to cut its expenses to deal with the continuing deep recession that faces the rest of the country. Calls for support focused on the debt the ministry has to its congregation and tried to shy away from the bankruptcy proceedings.
